Name: Indian Valley Theatre Offers FREE Summer Theatre Virtual Learning Workshop for Teens
Date: July 13, 2020 - July 17, 2020
Event Description:
Indian Valley Theatre invites Teens from 7th Grade through Graduating 2020 Seniors to join them for their virtual Teen Workshop July, 13-17, 2020. In response to the pandemic this year, the IVT Teen Workshop Staff created a Workshop that will be free and entirely online. The week's activities will include social media prompts, educational videos, and GoogleMeet events.
Staying with the Dr. Seuss theme that the Beginner’s Children's Workshop used this summer, the Teen Workshop will be themed after the Dr. Seuss book "Oh, the Places You'll Go." Each day throughout the week, there will be a new activity and a social media prompt. A monologue workshop will also be presented and will be geared towards students who are planning on auditioning for college or would like to strengthen their auditioning skills. The activities each day will be as follows:

Monday, July, 13: Monologue Day. There will be an educational video about monologues which will include best tips for auditioning with monologues. Also being held is a two-day monologue workshop. The first of the two days will start today. Students will meet with the directors of the workshop via GoogleMeet and pick a monologue to start working on. In addition to the activities, a social media prompt will be posted that alumni and current students can interact with. The social media prompt for Monday is "What lines do you remember from your time in workshop, Teen or Children's?"

Tuesday, July, 14: Improv Day. Usually during an  IVT Teen Workshop various Improv Games are conducted throughout the week. This year Improv Games will be introduced through GoogleMeet. The time and sign up for this event is yet to be determined. The social media prompt for this day is "Share your favorite backstage story or inside joke from your time at an IVT workshop."

Wednesday, July 15: Cool Down Day. Throughout the IVT Teen Workshop participants will learn different ways to calm down and reflect on what was accomplished that day or during the week. Today a video will be posted to guide students through some favorite cool downs. This will also be the second day of the Monologue Workshop. Students will sign up for individual times on GoogleMeet and put the finishing touches on their monologues from Monday. The social media prompt for this day is "If you have attended the IVT Teen Workshop during the past four years, then you know what a Rose and Thorn is. Right now everyone could use a rose, so tell everyone one rose (a good thing that has happened to you recently)."

Thursday, July 16: Art Day. An integral part of the IVT Teen Workshop experience is learning the other aspects of theatre. Today an educational video will be provided guiding students through a Dr. Seuss themed art or costume project. The social media prompt for this day is "Do you have a favorite costume or camp shirt from your time in workshop? Show us a picture, new or old!"

Friday, July 17: Character Development Day. A big part of the IVT Teen Workshop is learning how to create a character and embody them fully. Today an event for students will be held on GoogleMeet where different Dr. Seuss characters will be used to learn about the importance of a character's voice and how to develop them. The time for this event is still to be determined. The social media post for this day is "What characters did you play during your time in IVT workshop, Children's or Teens? Let us know the show and the year!"

IVT’s Summer Teen’s Theater Workshop will be offered FREE OF CHARGE for anyone interested. No registration is required. Zoe Michaels and Michele Wade have been very busy designing this Virtual Workshop with teens in mind. The whole IVT Summer Teen’s Theatre Virtual Learning Workshop will be accessible free of charge on IVT’s social media platforms, so make sure to follow along on Facebook and Instagram @indianvalleytheatre July 13-17.
