Name: An Untold Story: Farnsworth to Palumbo, 1968–1972- Call ahead to make sure this business is open during COVID-19
Date: March 31, 2020 - May 17, 2020
Event Description:
During the late 1960s, Dr. Farnsworth lost her legal battle to halt Kendall County’s construction of a new levee across her land connecting to a new Fox River bridge. In frustration, she stopped maintaining the property and listed it for sale. In 1968, the British Lord, developer and arts promoter Peter Palumbo, began a two-year purchase of the property, followed by a two-year intensive restoration. Drawings, specifications, photographs and materials combine in the Barnsworth Gallery to tell the story of the home’s original construction under Mies van der Rohe – and Baron Palumbo’s extensive restoration under Mies’s grandson, Dirk Lohan, assisted by project architect Paul Young.  FREE!
Location:
Farnsworth House
14520 River Road, Plano, IL 60545
